Mongofre, Favaritx and Presili

Stop at Illa d’en Colom and surrounding beaches such as Cala Tamarells. Lighthouse of Favaritx – Visit to nearby beaches such as Cala Tortuga and Presili Playas de Mongofre – Beautiful area with three beaches and sand dunes

In this crossing departing from Mahón we will need some more time and fuel, it is advisable to choose a boat with base port in Addaya, from there the trip is really short and there is time to sail a little further’, for example to the area of Favaritx and nearby beaches such as Cala Presili and Cala Tortuga.

From Mahón we must first make a stop in the area of Es Grau or Illa d’en Colom, an ideal place to take a swim and have a snack, from there the next stop will be the surroundings of the Favartix lighthouse, only accessible in summer by bus and the nearby beaches of Presili and Tortuga.

A short distance after rounding the cape of Favaritx we will arrive at the surroundings of the Mongofre estate, on its coast there are three magnificent beaches of white sand and very quiet as they are difficult to access by land.

Illa d’en Colom and Es Grau

We headed to the nature reserve of s’Albufera d’es Grau, core of the Biosphere Reserve, in its coastal area we find a narrow and shallow passage ideal for spending the day with the family, turquoise bottoms and crystal clear waters, on one side of the passage the Isla d’en Colom, sold a few years ago for more than three million euros and with a single small building, fortunately the only one that may be, even being private can be accessed in small boats and kayaks, only is prohibited to disembark pets, something that our “Whisky” has already been warned.

On land we find the beach of Es Grau and the beautiful fishing village with year-round residents, second homes of locals, inherited several generations and a summer atmosphere reminiscent of the time of “Verano Azul”, shallow beach ideal for dinghy sailing and enjoy with young children.

In the area we can find other small beaches, on the opposite side of the channel of the island, such as La Solitaria, Tamarells and Platja de s’Illa, the whole area allows you to enjoy all kinds of water sports, diving with crystal clear water that allows you to observe hundreds of fish eager for a crust of bread.

Mongofre Beaches

The Mongofre estate located a few hundred meters from the coast is owned by a local patron whose heirs founded the Rubió i Tudurí Foundation. Fernando Rubió was a pharmacist born in Barcelona and brother of Nicolau Rubió i Tururí, contemporary landscape architect and collaborator of Gaudí, author of the gardens of Pedralbes, the Francesc Mací square where there is a pond in the shape of the island of Menorca, the Turó Parc, or many other relevant projects.

As far as our route is concerned, there are three consecutive beaches, the first one Cala Caldes smaller and more inaccessible from land, the second one S’Aranalet de Mongofre and the main one with a beautiful sandy beach, crystal clear bottoms and one of the largest sand dunes on the island, it is recommended to roll down it! But slowly!

Favaritx

Sailing north the first lighthouse that we find is located on a small rocky peninsula, almost lunar, it is impressive to visit that place on gray winter days, it is like being literally on another planet, between the lighthouse and our previous visit to Es Grau there are several small beaches highly recommended, Sa Torreta Blanca or Cala Rambles, Cala Morella and especially the beaches of Capifort, Cala Tortuga and Cala Presili, the first virgin beaches accessible on foot through the “Cami de Cavalls” in the municipality of Mahón, beaches to which we Menorcans usually go on excursions as soon as the sun rises, with friends or with the school on more than one occasion.

The lighthouse for sailors, is the first to be built with the concrete tower in the Balearic Islands, with its spiral line and the representative silhouette, the most visited lighthouse on the island, preferably in winter, in summer the road is cut to avoid overcrowding but there is a bus service to get there comfortably.
